I can't believe anyone would run a 7th gen Intel processor on a security device exposed to the internet. I would build a PC with a 12th gen Intel processor (12100) for security reasons which takes me back to Protectli. I'd like this to run for a long time on backup power. I would go for a PC at the cost of a Netgate device, but the power consumption concerns me, as well as the size.

The fact that it doesn't have separate LANs per port is off-putting to me. I am not a big fan of the UDM Pro but I may consider it still. I'm ditching Ubiquiti's EdgeRouter line because they seem to be EOL and may not get security updates. a PC but I also wanted to discuss Protectli and see what people think. I looked at the DEC750 and was intrigued, but limiting to 8GB memory without breaking the "THOU SHALL NOT TINKER" band-aid along with strange Bios support has me shook. IPS/IDS via Zenarmor and possibly Suricata.

VPN (Wireguard or OpenVPN still undecided and not really picky right now) Multiple VLAN's with a couple L2/3 managed switches hanging off. Nothing colocated in the device to keep downtime/patching to just Opnsense and goodies.

30-40 devices (mainly IoT, smarbulbs, Alexa, etc. I've done so much digging and now am stuck in analysis paralysis, as I'm wont to do.įW6C (recent price cuts suggest long in the tooth?) (Big Cisco shop but don't want to pay those prices to tinker/run at home). I currently work with Cisco Firepower, Meraki, Umbrella, etc. After many failed attempts at fighting through a Mikrotik RB4011 I was given (just not worth my time at this point with how weird it is) I'm looking to grab an appliance for Opnsense.
